Market:

Heart failure is a chronic disease that requires lifelong treatment.  It is a global pandemic affecting over 26 million people.  Often later stage patients have no effective or affordable therapeutic options.  Existing therapies for end-stage patients include heart transplant and ventricular assist devices. 

 

Device:

CoRISMA is our solution.  CoRISMA is a fully implanted ventricular assist device with numerous distinct design advantages.  CoRISMA is implanted by a catheter, powered wirelessly, and includes a cleaning system so the clinician can percutaneously flush the system with the intent of reducing or eliminating stroke.     

 

Regulatory:

CoRISMA is a FDA Class 3 device and will require PMA review to evaluate safety and efficacy.    

 

Competition:

Numerous devices are available for end-stage Heart Failure patients.  Heartmate 3 is the market leader.  Heartmate 3 is surgically implanted and powered by a transdermal driveline.  10.1% of Heartmate 3 patients suffer a device-related stroke. 

 

IP:

Our intellectual property portfolio is strong.  5 patents have issued.  Numerous patent applications have been filed and other disclosures are underway. 

 

Stage:

CoRISMA’s main components have been extensively tested.  This includes the following:

1. Pump and impeller

2. Wireless coils and controller

3. Pump maintenance components

Additional system testing is required to characterize system performance.    

 

Funding Status:

The company is raising $1M in seed funding.  To date, $300,000 has been raised from 5 investors including Connecticut Innovations.  Connecticut Innovations is the 7th largest investor in early stage medical device technologies.
